Dr. Bilge Birsoy is 2009 Harvey L. Karp Discovery Award Recipient
The Division of Mathematical, Life and Physical Sciences is pleased to announce that Dr. Bilge Birsoy M.D. Ph.D., Postdoctoral fellow in the Rothman Lab, has won the 2009 Harvey L. Karp Discovery Award to support her research on "Robustness, Noise Compensation, and Coordination during Animal Development." The broad goal of the proposed study is to understand the mechanisms that govern robustness of animal development, and to identify the genetic factors that coordinate embryonic development and compensate for environmental variations.
Funded through a generous gift from international business leader and entrepreneur Harvey Karp, the Harvey L. Karp Discovery Award is intended to provide seed funding to the most exceptional young scientists at UC Santa Barbara to enable them to conduct cutting-edge research early in their careers and support their innovative research.
Our congratulations to Dr. Birsoy for winning this award.
