Research DescriptionProf. Read De Alaniz joined UCSB after completing a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship at UC Irvine. His research will focus on new reaction developments and their application to the synthesis of architecturally challenging and biologically important molecules. Initially focusing on identifying efficient new methods for the construction of carbon-nitrogen bonds. Nitrogen-containing molecules are valuable pharmaceutical targets and fundamental building blocks in natural product synthesis. |
BiographyJavier Read de Alaniz was born and raised in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Upon completion of his Ph.D., he moved to California where he worked in the area of total synthesis with Professor Larry E. Overman at the University of California, Irvine. During that time he was the recipient of the University of California President's Postdoctoral Fellowship. He joined the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UC Santa Barbara in 2009.
