Funded through a generous $47,000 gift from international business leader and entrepreneur Harvey Karp, the Harvey L. Karp Discovery Award is intended to provide seed funding to the most exceptional young postdocs at UC Santa Barbara early in their careers and support their innovative research.

The Harvey L. Karp Discovery Award will provide support to one outstanding postdoc annually so as to enable him/her to conduct cutting-edge research that might be considered too risky by agencies such as the NIH, and to launch promising projects and nurture the careers of gifted young investigators.  The award is intended to be highly competitive, bestowing upon the recipient a significant measure of independence.  Domestic and international postdocs may apply.  Applications due: May 12, 2017.
