Commencement 2014: Howard Wenger spoke at the Sciences Ceremony on June 14 at 9 am

Howard Wenger has 30 years of experience in the solar power field and continues to work toward adoption of solar photovoltaic technology throughout the world.  He works at SunPower Corporation, a $2.5 billion revenue company with over 6,000 employees, serving as president responsible for the company’s global residential, commercial, and power plant businesses.  Prior to SunPower, Wenger was an executive and board member of PowerLight Corporation which was sold to SunPower in 2007.  PowerLight was the largest solar system integration company in the United States. 

In 1993, Wenger co-founded Pacific Energy Group, a renewable energy firm noted for defining public policies and legislation to mainstream solar power, launching the first U.S. net metering and rebate programs for photovoltaics.  Earlier in his career, he worked for Pacific Gas & Electric Company in both research and strategic planning of solar in centralized and distributed generation applications. 

Wenger has authored dozens of papers, software programs, and tools addressing various aspects of the energy business.  In the last 15 years, he has shifted his focus to building great companies with a mission to change the world.  Wenger has a B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an M.S. in Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
