Biography

Zvonimir Dogic obtained his BA and Ph.D in Physics from Brandeis University. After a one-year postdoctoral position in Research Center Julich, Germany and at University of Pennsylvania, he was appointed as a Research Fellow at Rowland Institute at Harvard in 2003. In 2007, he started as an Assistant Professor in the Physics department at Brandeis University in Boston, and was promoted to Associated Professor in 2010. In 2017, he changed coasts and moved to the Department of Physics at University of California at Santa Barbara.

Research

Living organisms exhibit motility, reconfigurable and adaptable shape changes and complex dynamical patterns. Zvonimir Dogic research goals are to reproduce such diverse dynamical phenomena in simplified systems from a minimal set of building blocks. Beside potential applications in fields as diverse as robotics and microfluidics, such effort lead to discovery of the basic physical laws that govern behavior of systems that are inherently out of equilibrium. The research efforts of the group are interdisciplinary, and we extensively collaborate with theorists as well as experimentalists from different disciplines.
